12 in 12: 12,012 Free Young Adult Fantasy Adventures in 2012

12 in 12 gives schools, students and libraries free Overlords eBooks

Tiverton, Rhode Island, United States (PR Buzz) January 24, 2012: 12 in 12, a new campaign from The Overlords fantasy adventure book series, will immediately start giving away 12,012 free eBooks to schools, libraries and students throughout the 12 months of 2012. The goal of 12 in 12 is to provide students between the ages of 10 and 16 with free fiction reading material that will hold their interest and expand their minds.

The Overlords, written by Michael Squatrito, is a fantasy adventure tale set in the times of warriors and magic. Seven men and a special dog embark on a journey to find the coveted Treasure of the Land, the bounty left behind by the ancient Four Kings. Schools, libraries and students can obtain the free eBook (the first in the four book series) by accessing the 12 in 12 web page or emailing support@the-ovelords.com. Our company will track the eBook download numbers and post updates on our social pages and blog. In conjunction with the campaign, special contests will be announced and held throughout the year – most having to do with enhancing reading and creative writing for children. Additionally, The Overlords are currently researching aligning with like-minded charitable organization(s) that will directly benefit from both the short and long term success of 12 in 12.

Author Mike Squatrito had this to say about 12 in 12: "Reading and writing go hand in hand. By offering free eBooks, we hope to strengthen the children's reading skills and, in the process, spark the creative juices that will lead to them writing their own stories and creating fantastic novels!"

Overlord Enterprises is the umbrella for The Overlords and Self Publishing Insight. The Overlords, is a four book fantasy adventure series with books 1, 2 & 3 in publication. Self Publishing Insight offers school and library presentations, writing workshops, one-on-one author consulting, editing, illustration, eBooks, publishing services and more. Our company is currently staffed in southern California, Oregon, Rhode Island and (soon) The Philippines.

Upcoming Events

Overlord Enterprises continues to be active in the community.  In July (Mondays starting 7/11), Mike will be at the Tiverton Public Library where he will conduct two five-week workshops for kids ages 9-17.  The workshops are comprised of five one-hour sessions where the kids will learn the finer points of character development, creating settings, plot points, and editing techniques.  With a little luck, the next great novelist will emerge from these sessions!

Also in July (7/19), Mike will be presenting “The Concepts of Writing and Publishing” at the East Bridgewater (MA) Public Library.  This two-hour session will cover everything from writing your novel, understanding agents, publishers, and self-publishing, to marketing and self-promotion.  This event is appropriate for want-to-be writers and experienced novelist alike.  There is also a book signing following the event for those who would like to purchase a copy of one of Mike’s Overlords books.

Hope to see you at one of these events!

First St. Philomena's Workshop

Last Friday, 1/19/2007, I went to Karin Lord's writing class and helped kickoff her 6th graders project. We broke down the two classes of 25 students each into groups of five, where kids brainstormed about a fantasy setting, protagonists, antagonists, weapons and armor, and magical items. The kids had a ball! Their assignment for the next two weeks is to flesh out their ideas and them come up with three solid plot lines, which we'll go over at my next visit on 2/2/2007. Karin has also inquired about creating a hardcover book for the kids and we're hoping to get that information real soon.

St. Philomena's Consultations

It's official -- I'll be a consultant to Karin Lord's 6th grade writing classes at St. Philomena's School in Portsmouth, RI. What I'll be doing is helping the students create a story from scratch, then help the kids put together their own novel, piece by piece. The first day will be a brainstorming session where the kids will create their worlds, good and evil characters, weapons, armor, magic, vehicles, etc. This should be a fun time for all, and I really hope that the kids understand that writing can be a whole lot of fun. My first session is January 19th, 2007. I'll keep you posted!

Curtis Corner Middle School Lecture

Today, 12/22/2006, I spoke about writing and the creative process at Curtis Corner Middle School in Wakefield, RI, my son Devin's school. I was very proud of my son, who stood in front of 50 or so students and introduced me to the audience. You know how hard this can be for an 11-year old! The kids enjoyed my talk, and liked creating monsters even more! The group was a bit wild, but what do you expect on the last day before Christmas break? I hope the kids took away something from my speech. Devin said the kids loved it and were very impressed.

I'm going to enjoy my own Christmas break and will take off doing public events until after the New Year.

Merry Christmas to all and a very Happy New Year 2007!!!!

East Providence High School Lecture

On Wednesday (12/20), I lectured at East Providence High School in East Providence, Rhode Island. I spoke to about 50 9th and 10th grade students about the concepts of writing and publishing. I think the kids enjoyed the speech, and I sold six books to the kids. I'm looking forward to teaming up with Ms. Cari Ravo again in the future to help get my word out. Off to my next post ...

St. Philomena's Meeting (Cont.)

I met Karin at the Custom Coffee House in Portsmouth, RI and we agreed on the format for me to help in her classroom. The meeting went very well, and it looks like I'll be helping her students on my first off-Friday from work, 1/19/2007. I'll be dreaming up an agenda for two classes of 25 students apiece. This is going to be a blast!

Also, the Custom Coffee House is a perfect venue for a book signing event. Again, think outside the box , I feel I can help generate business both for myself, and the store owner. I'm awaiting his call and will keep you posted ....

As for today, I'm off to East Providence High School to give a lecture on the Concepts of Writing and Publishing, and then I'm off to URI for a photo shoot for their alumni magazine, QuadAngles, where they will be doing a profile on me for their February issue.

St. Philomena's Meeting

Today I'll be meeting Karin Lord, a teacher at St. Philomena's School in Portsmouth, RI to discuss my role as a consultant to her writing classes. I have some great ideas for her two classes. Each class will have 25 students, so we'll have a lot of creative energy flying around that room! I spoke at St. Phil's on 12/1 and had a great time, so I'm expecting more of the same. I'll let you know how the meeting went later ....
